The Biological Library is one of the oldest libraries within the University Library Network. Its collections were given a start in 1891 with the establishment of the subject of Natural History. It became a faculty library in 1962, when the two libraries at Botany and Zoology Departments merged. A large part of its holdings were formed through donations by Pensoft Publishers, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies, of photo albums from Vitosha Nature Park Directorate, books donated by the French Embassy in Sofia, the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria, St. Cyril and St. Methodius International Foundation, and many other donors.

Today the Biological Library successfully combines traditional with modern library technology and reference services. Its hodings consist of more than 83,200 volumes of books, periodicals, reference editions and electronic resources.
It provides 21 reading places.
