Valuable Donations to the University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski”

vatican_thumb.jpgDuring his official visit to Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” from 8 to 12 June 2010 for being conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, Cardinal Raffaele Farina donated to Sofia University Library an extremely valuable facsimile copy of the bibliophile edition of Bodmer Papyrus 24 -15 (P 75).

vaticana_snimka_4.jpgThe facsimile edition is part of the series Codicus e vaticanis selecti, Series maior. It reproduces part of the codex “Rap. Bodmer 14-15” containing texts of the Gospels according to Luke and John. The edition also includes an Introduction by Cardinal Farina and a technical description of the manuscript by Sever J. Voicu, Scriptor Graecus at the Vatican Apostolic Library, both produced as a separate volume. The facsimile folios of the manuscript and the accompanying volume are housed in a special box with light beige velvet lining. On box top cover below the Coat of Arms of the Holy See and of the State of Vatican City in golden letters is inscribed: UN VENERABILE TESTIMONE DEI VANGELI SECONDO LUCA E SECONDO GIOVANNI: IL PAPIRO BODMER 14-15 (P 75). A VENERABLE WITNESS OF THE GOSPELS ACCORDING TO LUCE AND ACCORDING TO JOHN: THE BODMER PAPYRUS 14-15 (P 75).
vaticana_snimka_2.jpgBoth facsimile folios of the manuscript are enclosed in a separate glass case. On the bottom of the box beneath the red bound volumes is attached an official document, accompanying the edition and signed by Monsignor Cesare Pasini, Prefect of the Vatican Library. It certifies that the facsimile copy of the edition donated to the University Library is No. 474. The edition has been published in a limited edition of 550 numbered copies and is not commercially distributed. The facsimile edition of the manuscript and the boxes have been produced by Testimonio Companus publishing company from Madrid and the accompanying volume by the Vatican Publishing House.
vaticana_snimka_1.jpgThe second valuable donated book is a special bibliophile edition “Apocalipsis cum Figuris” of engravings by Albrecht Dürer, donated to the library by the known Slavic Studies scholar Prof. Norbert Randow, on the occasion of awarding him the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.The book contains 15 engravings of the “Apocalypse”, printed on a special hand-made paper. It has a cardboard binding covered in handmade cream paper and contains an accompanying text in English, printed on standard-type of paper in two-color (red and black) print. The item donated to the University Library is especially interesting, because it lacks the standard bibliographic description - pagination, statement of responsibility and imprint data. Most probably it is a specially made unique copy.
