“The Historian of Alma Mater” – an exhibition devoted to prof. Mihail Arnaudov at Sofia University Library

arnaudov_1.jpgOn 22th May at Sofia University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” was opened the exhibition “The Historian of Alma Mater”, devoted to the 140th Anniversary of the birth of prof. Mihail Arnaudov.

Assoc. Prof. Anna Angelova – Director of Sofia University Library, presented the personality of Mihail Arnaudov and pointed itsarnaudov_2.jpg influence in the academic and cultural processes in Bulgaria in the first half of the XXth century. She mentioned the vast work of prof. Arnaudov – over 50 monographs in folklore, literary theory, ethnography and she marked his merit as a lecturer, researcher, public figure, and rector of Sofia University in the period 1935-1936. 

The exhibition includes archival and information materials – a testimony of the vast intellectual and academic heritage of the eminent Bulgarian scientist, it traces the scientific development of M. Arnaudov from his student years to the end of his teaching activities. There are presented his first publications, dissertation, the most famous works, books with autographs and dedications as well as his fundamental research “History of Sofia University”, published in 1939. 
arnaudov_3.jpgThere are presented Rector’s necklace, the Oxford University sceptre and other artefacts provided especially for the exhibition by the Sofia University Museum. 

The exhibition is one of the initiatives of the Sofia University Library dedicated to the 130th Anniversary of Alma Mater and it is included in the programme of the University cultural days in May and can be seen till 15th May.
Sofia University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" presented the fourth extension of the Zographou Electronic Research Library

zograf2.jpgOn 11th May in the Philological Library was presented the fourth extension of the Zographou Electronic Research Library. There were added digitized manuscripts from Samokov History Museum, Varna History Museum, National community centre “Saglasie - 1869”, as well as the second part of the collection of “Ivan Vazov” Public Library.  

Assoc. Prof. Anna Angelova - Director of Sofia University Library, pointed out that this is an impressive digital heritage, which allows the researchers to work. She underlined that it is used by approximately 180 researchers each year and most of them arezograf3.jpg foreigners. The manuscripts from the Zographou collection are the most used because they are the fundament and were less explored.
Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov - Rector of Alma mater, greeted the guests with the day of St. St. Cyril and Methodius and the librarians’ day. He thanked to everyone who supported the establishment and the extension  of the valuable collection.

Prof. Vassya Velinova - Director of the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Dujcev” thanked to the Sofia University’s management that supports these projects and there are saved and protected manuscripts each year: “The oldest university in Bulgaria is the place, where such a treasure should be stored, where this library should be. This is a guarantee for our spiritual survival in the future” pointed out Prof. Velinova.

The Director of the “Ivan Vazov” Public Library - Dimitar Minev, expressed his satisfaction that their manuscripts are in the Zografou room and congratulated Sofia University Library for the initiative, emphasizing that its development is innovative, interesting and workable solution.

clinicalkey.jpgIn the period 30.04 - 01.06.2018 Sofia University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" provides temporary access to Elsevier's ClinicalKey Medical Education. The platform includes books, images and videos in the field of the medical education. The access is via IP in Sofia University network and the users are required to create a personal profile to access the content of the site.
