Awarding the winners of the photo competition “Session in Sofia University Library“ and the game “Classical CULar”

class_c.jpgOn 8th March in Sofia University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski” took  place the award ceremony for the winners of the photo competition “Session in Sofia University Library" and the game "Classical CULar" (CULar – jokingly - a person who spend a lot of time in the Central University Library).

Organized for second time the photo  competition brought together the artistic vision of students and PhD students from Sofia University for the spaces of the University Library during the session. Dozens of pictures were posted on the Facebook page, and members of the jury were all visitors, who voted with the "like" button and determined in a transparent and democratic manner the winners.

b_croat_n.jpgSeveral institutions joined efforts to present the Croatian-Bulgarian cultural relations – Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, National and University Library in Zagreb, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and Sofia University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski". The exhibition is presented in two parts: in the central foyer of Sofia University and in Sofia University Library.
The official opening was on 6th March in the central foyer of Sofia University.
Exhibition "European, but above all Bulgarian".155th Anniversary of prof. Ivan Shishmanov

iv_shishmanov_plakat.jpgIn February in Sofia University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski" you can see the jubilee exhibition "European, but above all Bulgarian" dedicated to the 155th birth anniversary of prof. Ivan Shishmanov - one of the most representative figures in the Bulgarian spiritual and public life from 1888 to 1928.

The exhibition aims to present different aspects of the personality and the work of this scientist, politician, university professor, one of the founders of the post-liberation Bulgarian science and culture. Scientific heritage of prof. Ivan  Shishmanov covers several subject areas - history, ethnology, folklore, linguistics, pedagogy, psychology, cultural studies, comparative cultural and literary history and theory - discipline, which he created at the Sofia University.

The focus of the exhibition is the relation of prof. Ivan Shishmanov with the university. As а Minister of еducation (1903 - 1905), striving to europeanize the Bulgarian educational system, he constantly emphasizes that by the western influence the originality of the national culture should not be depersonalized and demands "to be Europeans and yet Bulgarians." The name of prof. Ivan Shishmanov is connected as with the growing of the Higher School into University, and with the establishment of the "Brothers Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi" organization, which has the task to build a special university building with the money, left by the two brothers.

The exhibition presents photos and documents from the Sofia University Archives and the Museum of Sofia University, which shows the relation of prof. Ivan Shishmanov with the Higher School.
